Thanksgiving 2010

We had a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving! Actually, Thanksgiving x 3!!!

We started off the fun-filled weekend off with a Trim the Tree Party at Mama's house Wednesday night. She says that decorating on her own is a little overwhelming, so she called in the crew! We had soup and hamburgers (for those that don't eat soup :)). We got all 4 of her trees decorated. Grace laid claim to her tree and made sure that we all understood which tree we could call ours. It was so much fun going back through the Christmas ornaments that mama has collected over the past 30 years. The really neat thing was that Grace got to hang ornaments that my kindergarten teacher "Miss" Daun" made. This year, she will have her own ornaments made by "Miss" Daun to hang on her tree! Wow! Mama has decided to make this a tradition...her Thanksgiving will be the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and we will do her Christmas decorating then!

As tradition holds, I thought I would get up and watch some of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade Thursday morning. Betcha can't imagine that there were much more fun things going on at my house :) We went to have a non-traditional Thanksgiving lunch with Grannie and Granddaddy. We enjoyed simple baked ham and turkey sandwiches because of a doctor's appointment that Granddaddy had the day before that left Grannie with not as much cooking time as usual. We had plenty of "traditional" Thanksgiving meals coming our way, so we enjoyed something light! The weather was warm and beautiful one more day before the artic blast came in...more on that a little lower! We spent some time enjoying each other's company outside on the swing :)

Enjoying the sunshine...swinging with ZiZi

Thanksgiving 2010

Hanging out with Uncle Josh :)

David and I fixed a yummy supper together Thanksgiving night and enjoyed some family time. We sat Carsyn up on the counter with us (holding onto her the WHOLE time) and let her eat her supper with us. We've got to get the highchair put together. We can't hardly stand the look on her face when she watches us eat and she doesn't have anything! We would rather see this look! (Even if it does include flying carrots...maybe even some in our plates)

Carsyn enjoying her Thanksgiving dinner!

So...I finally got everything ready for our big Black Friday shopping trip about 10:00 Thursday night. The plan was that I would call mama and Vicki when Carsyn woke up for her midnight feeding and we would leave when she finished...going back to sleep for 2 hours would have been worse than just getting up! Right on time, Carsyn woke up at 11:50 and we were headed out at 12:20. We stopped in Greenville, headed on to Prattville and finished up in Montgomery BEFORE 12:00 pm! I won the Most Improved Shopper award this year! I got so much accomplished...I was SO proud of myself! Mama blogged about Black Friday here :) We had a great time!!! Fortunately, Carsyn wanted to nap the afternoon away, so I took advantage of that and we piled up on the couch together while Daddy went hunting and Alabama gave away a ball game!

After napping for a little while, we headed over to David's parents for Thanksgiving supper. She makes the BEST dumplins and cornbread! And she had a yummy red velvet cake (that I eat now that I know that it is only food coloring that makes it red :))! Unfortunately, we were missing part of the family. Berkeley had gotten sick so Chris, Liz and the kids weren't able to make it :( Tyler and Carsyn had a good time playing!

Saturday, we worked on our Christmas decorations. This took about 14 times as long this year as ever before. We at least got the tree fluffed and the lights on it and the wreaths made. I had big plans for all of us to eat supper then decorate the tree...not that Carsyn could really do anything, but at least we wouldn't feel like we were leaving her out! Carsyn had plans to sleep. Guess who won! She did make it through ONE ornament!

She and her daddy woke up Sunday morning and, Wala!! The tree was decorated! Wonder how that happened!

We made her hand and footprint ornament to hang on the tree :)

We've still got to put up her tree. I will make sure we do that at a suitable time for her!!!

We ended the weekend with Thanksgiving lunch at Nannie and Papa's...oh my! Talk about stuffed...that woman can make some dressing! It's plain-jane just like we like and and it is TO.DIE.FOR! We got some family pictures made while ALL of us were together! I can't wait to get them tonight so I can add one here :)

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are all so blessed...more than we even realize.

Blessings,
Lauren
